A baby's room – how to create a space full of warmth and comfort?

Before a baby arrives, parents put together the essentials, buy the most important and useful things and set up the nursery. Whatever its size, they make sure the room is comfortable as well as cozy. A child's room needs to be arranged in a practical way. But besides functionality, which we'll get to in a moment, you should also think about accessories that make the space special. All kinds of these work well:

  • children's pictures,
  • stuffed animals,
  • pillows,
  • blankets,
  • lamps,
  • birth posters in any style.

In fact, a baby's room can include anything with a childlike or fairy-tale theme.

How to design a small baby's room? Where coziness meets functionality

Many parents face the question of how to furnish a small child's room. At the start, it's important to focus on key elements such as floors and walls. Instead of soft carpeting, it's better to choose floorboards or laminate flooring. They're easier to clean and don't trap moisture, so they don't encourage mold, which is often harmful even though it's invisible to the naked eye.

The next element is the walls – you can paint them or finish them with, for example, an eye-catching wallpaper with a childlike motif. However, be careful not to overwhelm the room with patterns on the walls, especially if the child's room isn't large. Sometimes it's better to choose a solid wall color or wallpaper with pastel stripes rather than busy teddy bears or cars. This is especially important for babies, who can become restless from too many stimuli, including colors.

A functional baby's room – what does every room need, whatever its size?

Whether the baby's room is spacious or rather tiny, you need to choose the right floor and wall finishes. Then it's time to pick the furniture. A crib, ideally with slats and adjustable mattress heights, is a must in every nursery. You'll also need a changing table, either as a separate piece of furniture combined with a dresser or as a simple changing top for the crib. A wardrobe or the dresser mentioned above will also come in handy for organizing baby clothes, toiletries and other everyday essentials.

A baby boy's room – inspiring design ideas

Delicate wallpaper for a baby's room

When designing a boy's room, parents most often choose finishes in blue, light blue and turquoise. But it doesn't always have to be blue. More and more parents are following trends and opting instead for a beige boy's room. Neutral colors like these make the room look neat and also visually larger. But you can also choose boys' wallpaper with cars, airplanes or teddy bears. Boys will love them, especially the slightly older ones.

A baby girl's room – get inspired by our ideas!

It's a similar story with a girl's room. Here, pink and purple reign, along with princess, animal or flower motifs. But here too, you can choose more neutral design solutions, such as a beige girl's room. Personally, though, we recommend girls' wallpaper with a delicate girly pattern – they'll bring a touch of fairy-tale magic and charm to the room.

A baby's room in the attic – how to make the most of the space?

One of the trickier spaces to design is an attic. The sloped ceilings are what makes it difficult, since they don't let you put furniture just anywhere. In that case, the furniture layout in the child's room needs even more careful thought. It's not only about making sure the child doesn't get hurt, but also about making the room comfortable for parents and caregivers. Placing the crib under the slope may turn out to be impractical, because it could mean bumping your head on the ceiling every time you lift your baby out of the crib.

So when designing a child's room, it's worth paying attention not only to aesthetics and style but also to functionality and practicality.
